Gentle scar tissue release — coming soon.

MSTR is a hands-on technique that gently releases scar tissue from surgery, c-section, mastectomy, joint replacement or trauma. Suitable for scars of any age — recent or decades old.

I'm currently completing my MSTR training and case study requirements. I'm taking expressions of interest now — and if you have a scar you'd like worked on, you may be a perfect fit for a case study session.

Case study spots available

Have a scar I could work on?

As I complete my MSTR qualification, I'm offering case study sessions — a great way to experience MSTR and help me complete my certification. Get in touch with a few words about your scar and I'll be back in touch.

What it is

A gentle, hands-on approach to scar tissue.

McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release (MSTR) was developed by Alastair McLoughlin and is now used by therapists worldwide. It is a gentle, light-touch technique applied directly to scar tissue and the surrounding area.

The work is calm and non-invasive. Most clients are surprised at how light the touch is — and at how quickly scars can soften and become more comfortable.

MSTR is offered as a standalone treatment — booked on its own, not combined with Bowen. If you also want Bowen Therapy, the two are scheduled as separate visits at least five days apart. Scars of any age can respond — recent surgical scars and scars from many years ago alike.

What it can help with

MSTR can ease three things at once

Pain. Restricted movement. The look and feel of the scar itself.

Pain relief

Pulling, tightness, sharp twinges or referred pain originating from scar tissue.

Range of movement

Restricted movement around joints or across the trunk after surgery or injury.

Aesthetic improvement

Softer, flatter, less raised or puckered scar tissue. A genuine change in look and feel.

Common scars I work with

If you have one of these, MSTR may help

Caesarean section scars
Mastectomy & breast surgery scars
Joint replacement scars (hip, knee, shoulder)
Abdominal surgery scars
Burn scars
Trauma & accident scars
Skin cancer excision scars
Old or recent surgical scars
Scars feeling tight or pulling

A scar should be fully healed (typically 8+ weeks post-surgery, or as cleared by your surgeon) before MSTR. Get in touch if you're not sure whether your scar is ready.

Common questions

MSTR FAQ

When will MSTR be available?

I expect to be offering MSTR around mid-2026, once I've completed the case study requirements for full qualification. In the meantime, you can register your interest, or volunteer to be a case study client and experience MSTR sooner.

What is McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release (MSTR)?

MSTR is a gentle, light-touch technique developed by Alastair McLoughlin and used by therapists worldwide. It is applied directly to scar tissue and the surrounding area to encourage softening, restore range of movement, and ease pain associated with surgical, c-section, mastectomy, joint replacement or trauma scars.

What does MSTR feel like?

Calm and non-invasive. Most clients are surprised at how light the touch is — and at how quickly scars can soften and become more comfortable. There is no pressing, breaking down or aggressive working of the tissue.

How old can the scar be?

MSTR can work on scars of any age — recent surgical scars and scars from many years ago alike. A scar should be fully healed (typically 8+ weeks post-surgery, or as cleared by your surgeon) before MSTR is applied.

What kind of scars does MSTR work on?

Caesarean section scars, mastectomy and breast surgery scars, joint replacement scars (hip, knee, shoulder), abdominal surgery scars, burn scars, trauma and accident scars, skin cancer excision scars — old or recent. If your scar feels tight, pulling, or restricts movement, MSTR may help.

Can MSTR be combined with Bowen Therapy?

No — MSTR and Bowen are offered as separate, standalone treatments and are not combined within the same session. They also can't be booked back-to-back: we recommend a minimum of five days between any Bowen session and any other bodywork (including MSTR), as multiple hands-on therapies in close succession can overload the nervous system and interrupt the Bowen reset.
